Apparatus to carry metallic materials (2) between stations in a processing chain, and especially between shaping and packing workstations flanking a roller-hearth furnace, has a pallet structure (3) of a heat-resistant material to carry them through the chain from start to finish. The pallet has a base (31), with skids (32) for the tines of a forklift truck, and a number of flat material supports (35-38) in a vertical stack over it, each with a pivot axis (35b-38b) at one end to allow a vertical upwards swing movement. The other ends are fitted with spacers (35a-38a) to rest on the supports under them.
