Superplasticizers for extending the workability of mortars

Cement additives useful as superplasticizers, which considerably extend the workability of concrete and other cement mixtures in the fresh and in the plastic state, are disclosed.;The additives according to the invention are obtained by copolymerising: (i) an ethylenically unsaturated (poly)alkylene glycol ether monomer, (ii) an unsaturated monocarboxylic ester monomer represented by the general formula (II)wherein R₃ and R₄ are each hydrogen atoms or methyl, R₅O is a C₂-C₃ oxyalkylene group, m is a number from 1 to 4 and R₆ is C₁-C₃₀ alkyl group;and (iii) an unsaturated ester monomer represented by the general formula (III)where;X is H or CH₃ and m is an integer from 2 to 50, optionally in the presence of other monomers.
