A two-sided hot rolled interstitial-free (IF) steel strip or sheet in steel alloy which can be enameled of composition (wt.%): carbon (C) (0.010 max), silicon (Si) (0.030 max), manganese (Mn) (0.80 max), phosphorus (P) (0.20 max), sulfur (S) (0.030 min), aluminum (Al) (0.020-0.060), niobium (Nb) (0.6-1.0), residue iron (Fe) and impurities. Independent claims are included for the following: (a) an IF steel as described above having a free residue consisting of at least 0.02% Ti and/or Nb; and (b) a method for preparation of the strip or sheet from the above composition with final hot rolling at a temperature above the A3 point.
