PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting upward bending of a material on-line in the rough rolling process using a CCD scanner are provided to prevent facility damage and mis-operation, thereby improving defects of products, and minimize non-operating time, thereby improving rolling efficiency by automatically detecting and monitoring on-line the upward bending of the material using a CCD scanner. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for detecting upward bending of a material on-line in the rough rolling process using a CCD scanner comprises a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) scanner (1) which is arranged perpendicular to a rolling direction of a rolling material so as to detect the image of the front part of the rolling material; an image securing device (2) simultaneously controlling a CCD camera of the CCD (Charge Coupled Device) scanner (1) and securing the scanned images; an image processing system (3) automatically calculating the bending amount by monitoring of operating conditions and performance of image processing after receiving the detected images; a motor control system (5) automatically stopping transferring of the rolling material when the post-process operation is judged to be impossible as the results of automatic calculation of the bending amount by the image processing system (3); and an alarm generator (21) warning the excessive bending conditions to an operator.
