The invention provides a method of communicating messages between a communication device 200 and a network 150 operating in a downlink mode wherein data is sent from the network 150 to the communication device 200 over a download only link 161 and the communication device 200 communicates with the network 150 over a control link 162 when polled by the network 150. The communication device 200 has at least two messages for transmission to the network 150. The method comprises transmitting a first message to the network 150 in response to a poll message from the network 150, transmitting a resource request to the network 150, for requesting additional resource for transmitting a second message to the network, and receiving by the communication device 200 from the network 150 an additional poll message in response to transmitting a resource request from the communication device 200.
