The remote monitoring procedure consists of illuminating the inner wall (2a) of the bore (2), e.g. with an incandescant lamp, LED or laser beam, adjusting the circumferential lighting by means of a mask (15) with its shape and dimensions corresponding to those of the bore. A camera (16) with its field of view directed towards the lighting and its optical axis aligned with the centre of the bore is used to register an image of the illuminated inner wall, so that irregularities or ovalization of the bore surface can be observed.
