Provided is a method for extracting calcium from sea urchin shells, which is simple, less costly and more environmental friendly than conventional methods and produces calcium with good appearance and quality. The calcium is extracted by the steps of; separating a sea urchin's shell from sea urchins; washing and dehydrating the sea urchin's shell, freeze-drying the dehydrated sea urchin's shell at -10 to -25deg.C for 24 to 30hr; grinding the freeze-dried sea urchin's shell to 60 to 200 meshes; drying the ground sea urchin's shell with hot air at 25 to 60deg.C for 24 to 30hr; filtering the dried sea urchin's shell to less than 60 meshes; extracting calcium by sintering the filtered sea urchin's shell at 700 to 900deg.C for 2hr; re-grinding the sintered calcium to less than 60 meshes; treating the re-ground calcium powder with an organic acid; and drying the organic acid-treated calcium powder at 50 to 80deg.C, wherein the organic acid is acetic acid.
