The present invention relates to a middle and low level radioactive waste treatment system using an electric resistance melting furnace, that can reduce the volume of middle and low level radioactive waste to 1/20 to 1/30 times the volume before being treated, thereby increasing the storage capacity of a radioactive waste storage facilities and ensuring safe treatment of ra¬ dioactive waste. The middle and low level radioactive waste treatment system comprises a plurality of pyrolysis incinerators for burning middle and low level radioactive waste therein at a high temperature, an ash hopper for temporarily storing ash generated in the incinerators, an electric resistance melting furnace for melting the ash transferred from the ash hopper using electric resistance heat generated by low voltage current, thereby changing the ash to slag, a pulverizing hopper for pulverizing the slag generated in the electric resistance melting furnace into particles, and a cooling hopper for cooling the pulverized slag to a predetermined temperature or lower.
