PROCESS FOR PREPARING VARIOUS SHAPES AND SIZES OF POLYMER PARTICLES BY SOAP-FREE EMULSION POLYMERIZATION

Provided is a method for preparing vinyl polymer particles via soap-free emulsion polymerization, by which uniform polymer particles having a desired shape and size are produced via a simple and reproducible process. The method for preparing vinyl polymer particles comprises carrying out soap-free emulsion polymerization of a dispersion or solution of a vinyl monomer, a dispersion stabilizer and a water soluble polymerization initiator in a dispersion medium. In the method, the dispersion medium includes a mixed solvent containing an organic solvent and water. In the dispersion medium, the vinyl monomer, dispersion stabilizer, water soluble polymerization initiator and a crosslinking agent as a particle modifier are completely dissolved to carry out soap-free emulsion polymerization and to obtain polymer particles having an average particle diameter of 1-50 micrometers and various shapes.
