System for providing number portability service by using multi protocol operating gateway and method thereof

PURPOSE: A number portability service system and a method using a multi protocol interworking gateway are provided to interwork with a multi protocol gateway such that the multi protocol gateway can conduct a number translation for a receiving number while authenticating a subscriber, thereby simplifying a development of an ESME(External Short Message Entity). CONSTITUTION: A multi protocol interworking gateway(201) receives subscriber information on a receiving terminal and an originating terminal from an ESME(107)(S301). If the gateway(201) requests number portability of the receiving terminal to be confirmed(S303), an NPS(Number Portability Service) unit(203) extracts number portability information on the receiving terminal from a number portability DB(S305), and transmits the extracted information to the gateway(201)(S307). The gateway(201) sends a message transmission request to a CDMA SMSC(SMS Center)(115)(S309). The CDMA SMSC(115) receives the request, and forwards a message to the receiving terminal(S311).
