The present invention relates to a pretreatment method for the analysis of trace amounts of heavy metals contained in steel, and more particularly, in the pretreatment process for the analysis of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, etc. Degradation of the sample in detail and selective separation of the iron matrix from the decomposed steel sample using strongly acidic cation exchange resins with sulfonic acid groups as exchangers enable heavy metal analysis up to ppb (part per billion) levels.
