Method of operating a file server by enforcing a uniform file-locking semantics for diverse file-locking protocols, and a file server operated by the method

PURPOSE: A multi protocol unification file locking is provided to perform an exact mutual operation of several various file servers or file protocols by using a uniform multi protocol locking management system. CONSTITUTION: A file server determines whether or not a client unit accords with a current locking, regardless of an original client unit or an original protocol of the current locking, before the client unit accesses data or obtains a locking. A first protocol performs a mandatory file opening and file locking with an opportunistic file locking technique. A second protocol lacks a file opening semantics and supplies with only a supplementary bite range and file locking. The file server transmits an oplock-stop message to a CIFS(common Internet file system) client unit, and gets the CIFS client unit to flush a register operation which is performed with a cash and to end a file if possible, when the client unit requests a non CIFS protocol to the file which has the oplock. The CIFS client unit gains a change monitor locking about a directory in a file system and let the file server notify the change of directory. The file server detects the change of directory due to the CIFS and the non CIFS, and notifies the CIFS client unit which has the change monitor locking of the change.
