The present invention relates to a method for mass production of astaxanthin using a xanthophyllomyces dendrorose JH1 mutant, and the method of astaxanthin from xanthophyllomyces dendrorose JH1 mutant through statistical experimental designs. It is effective in establishing the optimum production conditions and providing a method for mass production of astaxanthin. In particular, the present invention reveals that the content of glucose and yeast extract in fermentation broth is an important factor affecting the production of astaxanthin through statistical experimental design, and is applied to mass production of industrially available materials by demonstrating practical application.
