FIELD: powder metallurgy, namely production of hard alloys, possibly manufacture of cutting tools for working hard-to-form steels and alloys.;SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of synthesis of complex carbonitride Ti1-x-yTayWxC1-nNn where x = 0.2 - 0.8; y = 0.1 - 0.5 and n = 0.2 - 0.5 of finely divided mixture of tungsten carbide, tantalum carbide, tantalum nitride, titanium carbide and titanium nitride in nitrogen atmosphere at 1800 - 2000°C; then preparing initial charge containing 8 - 13 mass % of cobalt, tungsten carbide and complex carbonitride at relation 1:4 - 4:1 respectively; pressing plasticized charge, drying and sintering it in vacuum at 1400 - 1450°C.;EFFECT: improved mechanical strength at the same hardness value.;1 tbl, 3 ex
