FIELD: power engineering; monitoring overhead intermediate-span phase conductor and ground wire for ice, snow, and hoarfrost deposits.;SUBSTANCE: proposed method designed for automatic real-time monitoring of intermediate-span phase conductors and ground wire of overhead power transmission lines to detect ice, snow, and hoarfrost deposits on them at low specific densities of these deposits (low gravitational forces) includes measurement of relative direction, speed, and actual load of wind on deposit-bearing or deposit-free conductor or ground wire of intermediate span of line; calculation of expected wind load on deposit-free wire using data on measured speed and relative direction of wind and its comparison with actual wind load; if actual wind load is higher than expected value, decision is taken that are found on conductor, and if actual and expected wind loads are equal, conductor is considered as free from deposits. Proposed device implementing this method has wind relative direction meter, wind speed meter, two force-measuring transducers, each being loosely suspended between pole cross-arm and respective insulator string; bottom ends of both insulator strings are hinged together to form V-shaped wire suspension and top ends of transducer are attached to pole cross-arm and spaced apart through distance equal to length of transducer-carrying insulator string to form equilateral triangle together with V-shaped suspension; device also has four remote-transmission channels, two-input and controlled three-input comparators that function as device outputs. This device can be also used to store static information in geographical demarcation cartography to compile ice and wind charts.;EFFECT: enlarged functional capabilities.;4 cl, 10 dwg
