FIELD: plastic working of metals, namely production of calibrated forgings with elongated axis from ingots and preliminarily deformed billets in presses of four-striker forging apparatuses.;SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes holders of upper, lower and lateral strikers. Method comprises steps of heating billet and performing rough and calibration forging by passes at feeding billet after each squeezing and tilting between passes; after rough forging of blank with cross section area F = (1.05 - 1.4)Fn where Fn - surface area of cross section of calibrated forging, placing rigid support or supports between holders of upper and lower strikers. Calibration forging operation is realized until closing holder of upper striker with rigid support or supports during one or several passes.;EFFECT: possibility for producing calibrated forged products of different cross section and different size in one set of strikers, enhanced efficiency of method due to absence of period for readjusting tool.;2 cl, 1 dwg, 1 ex, 1 tbl
