A process for treating a textile web, in particular a weave or knit, supplied with a printed or other optically recognisable pattern which is formed from repeated units one after the other along a length, is new. The process comprises (i) capturing the pattern on the web by a picture detection apparatus (13, 13') and producing picture signals (14); (ii) leading the signals to a picture processing device (15) and, via control signals, processing them; and (iii) by adjusting the control signals effecting a final procedure (16, 17), in particular straightening the web, correcting distortion in it or working it periodically. - Also claimed is an apparatus for implementing the above process, including a process control device (18) governing the final procedure.
