The distance holding element has a supporting wall with at least one gas throughput channel passing from its inside to its outside and contains at least two material layers stacked in a stacking direction (104). At least one of the material layers contains a supporting element extending in a peripheral direction and at least two channel limiting elements transverse to the peripheral direction that form lateral limits of a section of a gas throughput channel. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell unit with at least one distance holding element.
