A core on the moving tool platen forms a molding cavity with tool plates(14,16,18,20) on the nozzle side tool plate. At last one of the tool plates has a flat recess for holding a film insert to be located in a sidewall of the molded crate. At least one first type of tool plate(14,16) has cavity-facing sections extending along two adjacent outer surfaces of the core. - The first type of tool plate(14,16) has two cavity-facing sections(42,44) extending along the core and lying at 90 deg. to each other. The length of at least one, preferably both, sections is equal to or greater than half the length of the opposing core wall. The four tool plates comprise two of a first type(14,16) and two of a second type(18,20). Each tool plate of a pair forms a mirror image of the other in the sections adjacent to the molding cavity. Both tool plates (18,20) of the second type have equal length sections(46,48) facing the molding cavity. In the injection position all tool plates are arranged in a holding plate(38) which, in plan view, has a rectangular shape with a first central axis(90). In plan view the core has a rectangular shape with a second central axis(92). Both central axes intersect at an angle( beta ) to each other where beta is neither 0 deg. nor 90 deg. , but preferably 30-60 deg. , and in particular 45 deg. . Each tool plate is guided towards or away from the core by two or more guide pillars(22,24,26,28). Straight lines parallel to the outer sides of the holding plate intersect the guide pillars. In the injection position all tool plates engage each other and are off center relative to the holding plate sides. Movements of the tool plates are coupled by additional pillars perpendicular to the guide pillars.
