A metal casting jet receives a continual flow of magnesium or magnesium alloy that is converted into strip metal. The casting jet has a passage of essentially rectangular cross section through which the molten metal flows to an outlet (6). The jet rectangular sidewalls are metal and incorporate a heating assembly effective over the greater length of the sidewalls.
