A drive unit for rotating a hollow spindle(3) with an eccentric longitudinal bore comprises a speed regulated motor(1) mounted on a housing(24). An eccentric control shaft(2) linked to an eccentric control spigot is rotated inside the bore by a control motor(9), also mounted on the housing, for controling the phase angle adjustment of the eccentric control shaft. The speed regulation motor is on the same axis or axially parallel to the control motor. Rotation of the hollow spindle(3) by the speed regulated motor(1) is transmitted through a motor pulley wheel(4), toothed belt(5) and a hollow spindle pulley wheel(6). Speed is reduced between the two pulleys. The control motor(9) drive shaft is connected to: a) the eccentric control shaft(2) via a shaft coupling(8), a driving spigot(29) in a bearing bush of the hollow shaft pulley wheel and a universal coupling(7) and b) to the speed regulated motor through an electric shaft with a variable phase shift. An alternative control drive comprises a stepper motor with a rotor spindle which effects axial adjustment of a bearing bush in a holding bush of the housing via a nut. A similar action can be produced by a pneumatic adjustment cylinder. Operation of the eccentric shaft can also be effected by rotation of a high angle threaded nut in an axial-radial bearing in the bearing bush. A sliding key links the nut to a sliding socket connected to a hollow spindle pulley wheel.
