The closing device or front bonnet (40) lock for a motor vehicle has a closing part (10) attached to the side of the vehicle body and a second closing part (42) attached to the side of the bonnet bolted to the first closing part (10). The device has a crash box (12) which encompasses the closing part on the body at least partly, whereby a buffer zone (24) between the outer wall of the cash box and the closing part on the side of the body reaching into a space is created, into which the closing part can be pressed through the application of little pressure. The buffer zone allows the closing part to give way relative to the whole closing device in the event of bumping into a pedestrian.
