The method involves partly or completely opening or closing one of two inlet spin channels dependent on an operating point of a direct injection internal combustion engine. A charge state is selected as the operating point of the internal combustion engine. Directions of spin flows of a medium (7), which is brought into the two inlet spin channels, are developed opposite to each other. An independent claim is also included for a direct injection internal combustion engine e.g. self-ignition internal combustion engine.
