The present invention provides compositions comprising at least one substance capable of binding to a pathogen associated molecular pattern (PAMP) receptor; and at least one tri-helical fiber protein, fragment or variant thereof. According to a preferred embodiment, the trihelical fiber protein is procollagen, fragments or variants thereof. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions for prophylaxis / therapy containing them and test kits for diagnosing connective tissue diseases containing them. Furthermore, specific binding partners and their use in pharmaceutical compositions for prophylaxis / therapy and in test kits for the diagnosis of connective tissue diseases are provided.
