The method involves receiving an optical component in a carrier frame (1), which is designed for engaging the optical component outside an optically usable surface. The frame along with the component is inserted into cleaning equipment. The frame and the component are removed from the equipment after performing an ultrasonic cleaning. The component is released from the frame and is applied on a retaining frame. An independent claim is also included for a handling system.
