A simple tool for opening doors with multiple edge profiles, e.g. when the door has closed on the latch and without security locking, has a flat blade (7) with at least two step profiles, formed by four folds (3, 4, 5, 6). One end of the blade is fitted with a hand grip (8) while the free end has sloping edges (8, 10) which are pressed onto the latch catch to open the door. The blade is made of thin metal or plastic sheet. The bend lines can be formed by lines of perforations and the blade can be fitted with a pull which is used to form the stepped profile as the blade is worked into the stepped gap between the door and the door frame.
