The drive for the wheels of an aircraft used during landing comprises a system whereby the wheels before touching down on the runway are set into rotation by wind vanes on the wheel rims. The wind vanes can be adjustable so that they completely or partially fold in when landing speed is achieved. The head wind may be trapped by flaps or other openings, and by air passages or nozzles the wheels are set in rotation.
