A cleaning assembly (4) for an open-ended spinning machine effects the cleaning action by generating oscillations that are transferred to the soiled components. The oscillations are mechanical or electro-mechanical oscillations in the infra- ultra- or hypersonic range and imparted via contact interface. The contact interface my be mechanical, gas or ambient air. The frequencies emitted are regulated by a control device. In an alternative embodiment the oscillations are generated by microwave emissions or laser beam. Also claimed are a commensurate cleaning process operating in the range 20 to 40 kHz and employing a cavitation process with a slightly volatile substance.
