A square wave carrier signal is generated. By phase shift keying (PSK), a data signal is imposed onto the carrier signal, hence forming a modulated signal. The data signal is imposed between two adjacent edges of the carrier signal. The circuit is constructed as a monolithic integrated circuit, and implemented in digital circuit technology. The modulation is placed in the center, between the flanks of the square wave. A transceiver based on the technique is an RFID or radio frequency identification tag. An independent claim is included for the corresponding method of modulation.
