The clutch has an axially non-displaceable clutch part and an axially displaceable clutch part. A releasing mechanism axially shifts the latter clutch part in relation to the former clutch part in case of overload. A solenoid (3) is provided and a receiver sends an offset signal as a function of distance of a component of a sensor from the latter clutch part to indicate switching status of the clutch. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining an overload situation in an overload clutch.
