A simple method for fitting a lock cylinder into a lock, especially into a vehicle door lock, has the cylinder slid axially into a recess in a holding bracket (3) to a preset depth where a twist action secures the cylinder using corresponding ratchet grips (6, 7). No other fittings are required. The cylinder can be removed by removing a locking profile on the holding bracket.
