Analyzing a sample by a ligand-binding process where target sequences (TS), present as part of taget molecules (I) form a duplex or complex (A) with capture sequences (CS) of probes (II) and/or where the resulting (A) are analyzed, is new. (A) contains, spatially close to and/or within TS, at least one detectable label or accumulation of labels. Independent claims are also included for: (1) preparing (I) that contain labels exclusively close to or within TS; (2) (I) for use in the new process where the (accumulation of) labels is close to and/or within, TS; (3) kit for preparing (I); (4) set of capture molecules for the new process; (5) detecting capture sequences; and (6) device for analyzing the nucleic acid from a nitrogen-fixing organism comprising a microscope slide on which capture molecules are immobilized, each having the same capture sequence as any of 189 sequences reproduced.
