Arrangement for examination of surface phenomena at solid-liquid interfaces makes spectrophotometric measurement (2) of the interference spectrum obtained via totally internal reflection for a single droplet (3) placed on a substrate, of a different refractive index, and mounted on a transparent carrier, while also recording by photography or electronic imaging (9) the profile variation for the droplet. An independent claim is included for the procedure of using electronic imaging to record variation of the droplet volume, contact radius, contact angle, and hence surface / interfacial tension with the test substrate.
