In carrying out metallurgical processes in plant parts, such as a converter, the knowledge of the time-dependent exhaust gas composition is an important tool to provide information about the process progress. Known analysis methods consist in removing a limited volume from the exhaust gas stream (7) and then analyzing this exhaust gas sample. A disadvantage of this analysis method based on sampling is the time delay with which the analysis result can only be obtained after sampling. According to the invention, it is therefore proposed to carry out a contactless exhaust gas analysis without delay with the aid of FTIR spectrometry, the spectra obtained from an FTIR spectrometer (2) being used with the aid of a previously determined mathematical model for calculating the exhaust gas composition.
