The device has a vehicle application program interface or VAPI, which lies at least partly logically between drivers of vehicle networks and a service framework with application programs, whereby the vehicle application program interface is formed as the service framework with at least one interface, whereby the vehicle application program interface with low level connectors is configured for communications with vehicle-specific low level sources, an object management with a database, in which vehicle-original information is stored in object-specific manner. The association of the object-specific data (VAPI data objects) with the assigned low level connectors is carried out by a low level mapping and the vehicle application program interface contains definitions of data objects and mappings in a profile, which are convertible by a set of rules. An independent claim is also included for a method of exchanging original vehicle information.
