Method of distributed high rate transmission of large quantities of digital data within a room or enclosed space e.g. inside a train or airplane using a fine laser beam
The method provides high rate transmission of digital data from at least one transmitter (3) arranged in the space or room (1) to several receivers (6) associated with several users and located in the same room or space. The transmitter is an optical transmitter and, on actuation of a beam steering controller, emits respective bundled fine laser beams (4) modulated with the data to be transmitted targeted to beam deflecting reflectors (5) associated with respective receivers. The reflector (5) deflects the laser beam to the associated optical receiver for reception there. The location of the transmitter, the reflectors and the receivers in the room are selected such that the laser beam can pass between them unhindered. Independent claims also cover a system for carrying out the method.
