The system to determine the position of a patient (1), e.g. for use with an X-ray equipment and the like, has a table plate (2) on a mounting (5) to support the patient with at least one integrated expansion strip (3). Sensors (4) measure a bending of the table plate through the patient's weight by the length of the expansion strip. The strip is of an electrically conductive material, and its length is measured by the electrical resistance.
