Woven textile tape with optical fibres (OF) incorporated in the warp direction by passing them over several weft threads before fixing them again under a weft thread, leaving the OF largely exposed over large areas on top of the tape; the OF are gathered together at the end of the tape and coupled to a light source, and the edges are left free from OF for fixing to a substrate. Woven textile tape of various lengths or breadths (I) with optical fibre(s) (OF) incorporated in the warp direction, in which the OF are passed over several weft threads as in a twill weave before binding again under a weft thread. The OF are thus largely exposed over relatively large areas on the top of the tape but are firmly attached to the tape by means of the weft threads; the OF are also gathered together at at least one end of the tape and coupled to a light source, and there are no OF at the edges of the tape so as to enable fixation to a substrate. An independent claim is also included for a method for the production of (I), preferably using polymethyl methacrylate optical fibres (OF), by heating the OF at 50-80 (preferably 60) [deg]C before weaving to improve their processability, subjecting the woven tape to conventional textile finishing and then applying a thermal treatment to obtain a significant radial propagation of light.
