The clamp has two jaws with clamping surfaces and are adjusted relative to each other in a clamping direction. A front piece abuts around a tilting axis, which runs transverse to the direction. A contact surface (AFB) of the front piece, forming a wedge-shaped gap with the clamping surface when the jaw is at a starting position, is supported at the clamping surface when the workpiece is clamped between the jaws against restoring force.
