In a process to remove residual water from an organic fluid system by pervaporation (vapour and gas permeation), the pre-treated fluid is brought into contact with one side of a membrane, and the water vapour partial pressure is lowered on the other side of the membrane. The pressure reduction on the permeate side is 0.01 to 50 mbar, and the pressure on the retentate side is 1 to 10 bar. The organic fluid system is e.g. an electrolyte containing a nitrile, an aromatic substance, alkane, ether, ketone, aldehyde or chlorinated hydrocarbon. The fluid temperature is 50 to 200 degrees C. The membrane is based on polyvinyl alcohol. The treated fluid residual moisture is less than 10 ppm.
