The mechanism has a brake surface provided for the brake ring (12) at an outer periphery of a coupling (10) that concentrically connects an output shaft (21) of a lifting gear drive and a sleeve barrel (8). The drive and the barrel are detachably connected by the coupling. The coupling is connected with the shaft via a concentric hub. The hub and the shaft are connected by a corresponding rotatable synchronization. An independent claim is also included for a method for grinding a brake ring.
