A check is made as to whether a connection can be set up via a local narrower-coverage radiotelephone network (RN) (WLAN) or via a mobile wide -coverage RN. It is decided whether adequate data transmission (ADT) is possible via the WLAN if a terminal lies within the WLAN's receiving range. A connection is set up with the terminal if ADT is possible via the WLAN.
