The damper (10) to suppress pressure swings in the flow of a liquid or paste coating material, for application to a paper or cardboard web, divides the flow into two paths of different lengths which are then united at the outflow (17) channel before the outlet (12) for application. One flow path is a fixed tube (14) and the other is a flexible tube (15) where the flow length can be adjusted according to the pump speed. The tubes have the same diameter to give equal flow masses through them.
