The rotating anode disc (1) has a peripheral focal path (3) producing x-radiation (14). Its internal cavity (7) includes a fluid for partial evaporation and a capillary metal mesh. This construction dissipates heat from the focal path, in accordance with the heat pipe principle. The anode disc is alternatively ceramic with a porous inner surface. Heat is transferred via the base (19) of the anode disc, to the anode tube (2) and thence to a heat exchanger (10) at its far end. The cavities are all sealed-off, vacuum-tight.
