The device has an excitation unit to activate a plasma at a time interval. An optical spectrometer (1) collects and analyzes a specific radiation emitted by the plasma . A multi-channel detector (3) with an integrator (4) converts the radiation into an electrical signal. A time controller (8) is arranged to divide the time interval into three subintervals, and to select and restore the integrator three times during the subintervals. An independent claim is also included for a method for analyzing a spectro chemical unit of a fixed probe.
