The method determines the estimation error (se) of a decision slicer (2) which determines an output value (y-circumflex) in dependence on an input value (d). The error designates a deviation of the input value from a rated input value. At least one possible deviation (f1, f2) between the input value and possible rated value is determined. The estimation error is determined in dependence on the possible deviation and output value. Preferably, the rated input value allocated to the output value is selected for determination of the estimation error. Independent claims are included for : (1) apparatus for determining the estimation error of a decision slicer; and (2) an equaliser of a received signal train.
