A door catch, especially for a vehicle door, has the rotating catch (1) locked in the closed position by a locking catch (5) to secure the locking grip (4). The catch is spring loaded into the open position and the invention describes a spring loaded restraining leverage (12) which provides a retarding force on the door catch and thereby prevents sudden sharp door catch noises and which enables the door to open in a controlled manner.
