The method involves using a projector (P) to project the contents of an image buffer onto a projection surface (S). The digital image is processed in a rendering procedure, by geometrically distorting it using a two-dimensional pixel displacement field containing information relating to the projection surface (S), and by manipulating its colors based on a two-dimensional surface texture of the projection surface. At least some of the processed image is rendered in the image buffer. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for displaying a digital picture on a projection surface.
