A ship or boat has a two contra-rotating screws (18, 19) in-line, each driven by two motors (20-23). The forward screw is driven by a hollow outer shaft (4) and the rear screw is driven by a concentric inner shaft (3). Two input shafts (1, 2) are located parallel to the inner shaft (3) and outer shaft (4), each being linked to the respective motors via clutches (24-27).
