In a covering (2) for cladding an automobile interior region comprising a flat covering part (3, 4) (preferably of leather) with a visible side and at least one seam (5), the opposite side of the covering part from the visible side is connected in the seam region with at least one positioning element (6) for retaining the covering part in defined manner during lamination and/or back-foaming. An independent claim is included for a shaped article for use in automobiles, comprising a substrate (1) and a covering (2) as above, where the substrate has indentations (12) or holes for force- and/or shape-keyed connection with the positioning element(s) (6).
